Attractions at airy heights
The Dachstein Sky Walk platform at the mountain station offers a glass floor for an unforgettable view and a breathtaking view down to the 250 metre vertical rock face of the Hunerkogel. On clear days, you can see as far as the Hohe Tauern, Slovenia and the Czech Republic.
The Dachstein suspension bridge with its stairway to nowhere offers thrills and leads to the Dachstein Ice Palace. It offers a view of the 400 metre-deep cliffs of the Dachstein massif. At the end of the bridge, you can enjoy the feeling of floating in the air. The stairway to nowhere is also an ideal photo point.
NEW: The absolute highlight is the Dachstein sky ladder, which provides a special adrenaline rush. Twelve steps lead up to a glass platform that offers a breathtaking view of the Dachstein.
The Dachstein not only wins you over with stunning natural snow slopes for skiers and snowboarders, but also with perfectly groomed cross-country skiing trails. They are considered to be an international training centre for cross-country skiers, biathletes and Nordic combined athletes. In autumn, on peak days, up to 700 athletes from more than 25 nations gather here.
Besides the world elite, you can also find many hobby sportsmen and women on the panorama trail. You can enjoy up to 18km of the best prepared cross-country skiing trails in the middle of an unforgettable mountain landscape.
The Freeride run, the “Edelgriess“ is considered one of the nicest Freeride runs in the Alps. However, "sure-footedness" and advanced skills are necessary in order to be able to ski down the southern massif of the Dachstein to Ramsau. 1600 metres of powder snow fun in a magnificent rocky setting, with a view of the Planai and Schladming, and slopes with gradients of up to 45 degrees.
Between steep rock barriers and limestone walls there are cirques, gullies and compacted snow flanks of the Dachstein. A total of eight kilometres to Ramsau makes up this spectacular descent!
Crossing the Dachstein, is popular with both locals and guests. It is one of the classic, big ski crossings in the Alps and can usually be made in late winter and spring. Austria’s National- Ski Tour is one of the most spectacular routes, where you can “discover” the UNESCO World natural and cultural heritage of Dachstein.
The run down is a 25 km long route from the Dachstein summit regions via the Simonyhütte and Gjaidalm down to the Hallstätter See Lake, 2,200 m below. To get back to the Dachstein valley station without any problems, there are Planai-buses from Obertraun to Schladming.
