The 10-passenger gondola lift, built in 2023, takes you even faster and more comfortably from the valley directly to the summit of the ‘Kieserl’ at 1,945 metres and right into the heart of the skiing fun. The adjoining summit restaurant also tempts you with delicious dishes and regional specialities. The 360° panoramic view comes free of charge. Ski jumping legend Stefan Kraft, who learnt to ski here and feels right at home in Grossarltal, his ‘2nd home’, is also delighted. This is where he finds the strength to reach new heights.
The hit for families: free adventure meadow in the valley with practice lift, magic carpet, tubing carousel and huge snow playground for the whole family. There is also a fun slope on the mountain with a snow tunnel, wave track and funny characters, a trendy fun park and, for the little ones, the ‘Hollywald’ with well-known characters from the world of comics hidden along a forest run.
The best hotels in the Ski amadé
Grossarltal is also known for its outstanding hotels. The offer ranges from cosy, rustic guesthouses, family-friendly flats and exclusive chalets to elegant luxury hotels in the 4-, 4- and 5-star categories. By the way: with three 5-star hotels, Grossarltal offers the largest range in this segment in the whole of Ski amadé.
Pure nature away from the slopes
In addition to classic piste skiing, the Grossarl Valley at the entrance to the Hohe Tauern National Park offers a variety of activities away from the pistes: walking, cross-country skiing, tobogganing, horse-drawn carriage rides, ski touring, snowshoeing, etc. There is also an extensive activity programme with up to eight guided outdoor activities every week. All dates at: www.berg-gesund.at, participation free of charge for guests of BERG-GESUND partner businesses, transfers and equipment hire for a fee.
Anyone checking into Grossarltal can therefore rely on a wide range of sports as well as ecologically sustainable offers on and off the slopes. Enjoy the new dimension of skiing in Grossarltal.
The hiking village of Grossarl awaits you roughly in the middle of the valley with numerous alpine pastures, a large sports & leisure centre with adventure swimming pool, sports facilities and the legendary GAUDI-Alm, Salzburg's largest alpine playground. With the Panoramabahn and the Kieserlbahn Großarltal cable cars, you can float directly from the village centre to your carefree mountain experience around the Kreuzkogel, Fulseck and Kieserl peaks. Enjoy a trip to the Spiegelsee lake in Dorfgastein and the newly designed Himmelreich reservoir in Grossarl, a paradise for the whole family. Fun and action is guaranteed on a downhill run by mountain bike on the Grossarl Valley single trail, which is almost 10 km long and has a difference in altitude of around 1000 metres, and by mountain cart from the Kreuzkogel to the Harbachhütte.
Bergsteigerdorf® Hüttschlag a little farther back in the valley attracts visitors with its picturesque valley head. Also where Hohe Tauern National Park begins in Grossarltal. Which means, Hüttschlag offers tranquility, relaxation, pristine nature, along with some really challenging alpine tours and summit conquests, including the Keeskogel and Weinschnabel. Also especially popular is the hike along the Salzburger Almenweg from the Gamskarkogel via Hüttschlag to the Tappenkarsee, continuing the length of Grossarltal to Ghost Mountain in St. Johann Alpendorf and Wagrainis Grafenberg in Wagrain. Fixed-cable climbs through the Hüttschlager Wand promise pure adrenaline.
Thanks to the activity program of BERG-GESUND, every week you can participate in as many as 10 guided tours, including a yoga hike, a “deceleration day”, a fitness hike, guided high-alpine tours to seven of the most beautiful peaks in the valley, along with a via ferrata climb. Participation is free for all guests of the approximately 110 BERG-GESUND partner businesses.
