Are you familiar with the following situation? The air is freezing cold, and with every exhale a little cloud forms in front of your face – that’s when winter shows its true colours. A thick blanket of snow covers the mountain pastures and slopes.
The snow gently crunches underneath your feet and the sun is shining from the sky. Perfect conditions for a snowshoe hike after an eventful ski day in the wondrous world of Ski amadé! 

The route network branching out in all directions at the five regions lets you enter a breathtaking alpine setting that will have you in awe. What an amazing alternative to skiing or snowboarding! With snowshoes strapped to your feet, you’ll head out into the powder snow. Because once you’ve put them on, there’s no holding back in the snow! Time to explore the mountains of Styria and the Salzburger Land region step by step.

Your snowshoe experience in ski amadé

Brain: off; fresh air: in! That’s one of best experiences when ambitious snowshoe hikers wade through pristine natural landscapes. It’s the perfect sport to clear your head and fill your lungs with fresh mountain air. 

A total of five regions can be explored on foot: from the Salzburger Sportwelt to Schladming-Dachstein, Gastein, the Hochkönig and Grossarl Valley. And at every resort, beautiful snowshoe routes await winter sports enthusiasts. 

On the Loosbühelalm  in Grossarl at 1,769 metres above sea level, in Filzmoos, in Flachau or in Gastein: The snowshoe routes are accessible for everyone. You don’t have the right equipment at hand? There are sports rentals  at every village where you can rent your snowshoes.

The most beautiful snowshoe routes …

… await you in the Salzburger Sportwelt: Ten routes have snowshoe hikers flocking to the beautiful Salzburger Land region every year. As a participant of a guided tour or on your own: Walking through the powder snow is an absolute highlight either way.

… await you in Schladming-Dachstein: In the Untertal, in the Obertal or towards the Rossfeld: You can hike over the glistening snow cover on the routes along the toboggan runs or cross-country. Your constant companions: the sun and a smile on your face. 

… await you in Gastein: 18 different routes with a total of 60 kilometres: From the Elisabeth Promenade to the mountain station on the Stubnerkogel and the snowshoe trail in Dorfgastein, you can choose from a number of exciting options. 

… await you in the Hochkönig region: The educational snowshoe trail leads winter hikers through a winter wonderland on the Hochkönig – accompanied by a guide. 

… await you in Grossarltal: Become one with nature and walk with snowshoes and telescopic poles through the snow-covered winter landscape - past bizarre snow-dusted trees and impressive views. The Loosbühelalm is also open in winter.

Enjoy a fantastic winter scenery at 1,769 m (away from the ski slopes). You can reach the Alm with tourn skis, snowshoes, on foot or with a taxi. The cozy parlors invite you to rest, where you will be spoiled with farm products. Toboggans are available for hire on the Loosbühelalm.

Panorama snowshoe hike between Grossarl and Dorfgastein

Ascent with the new Kieserlbahn to the mountain station at 1,954 metres. Once at the top, the first refreshment stop is the new WOLKE 7 summit restaurant with 360° panoramic terrace. The panoramic snowshoe trail leads to the Arltörl 1,797 m and on via the Heumoosalm (not serviced) to the middle station of the Fulseck summit lift. Take the cable car back up to the mountain station. Once at the top, the Hauserbauer Gipfelstadl invites you to take a cosy break. Take the winter hiking trail back to the Kieserlbahn mountain station.

Snowshoe hike in the direction of Hirschgrubenalm in Hüttschlag.

From the Oberneureit farm in Hüttschlag, snowshoe uphill along the goods road or along a forest path towards the Hirschgrubenalm (not open in winter). The tour ends shortly before the Hirschgrubenalm due to a game reserve. The Hirschgrubenalm is located in a wide basin in a marvellous mountain landscape - back along the same route.

After the tour you can fortify yourself in the Aschaustüberl.

Snowshoe hike to the Karseggalm in Grossarl.

From the Breitenebenalm car park, snowshoe uphill along the goods road or along the shortcuts through the forest to the Breitenebenalm (not open in winter). Shortly before the Breitenebenalm, you pass a game reserve. The trail continues partly through the forest and partly over snow fields to the Karseggalm (not open in winter). At the Karseggalm you can enjoy the marvellous winter landscape. Return along the same route.

In addition to our hiking paradise in summer, the mountain world in the Hochkönig region also offers untouched nature in winter, over 85 km of groomed winter hiking trails, snowshoe trails and an enchanting winter landscape.

Discover the decelerating winter sport, which leads you through deep snow-covered forests and rustic ski huts, past breathtaking views, into the Salzburg Alps. The fresh mountain air not only revives your health but also provides for a romantic moment or two.

The snowshoe walks are offered by the local sports equipment shop Sport Rettensteiner in Forstau. The snowshoe walks take you to places you would never be able to reach on skis.

In the midst of the snowed-in mountain scenery the snow crunches beneath your feet every step through untouched nature. Walk on age-old paths, just like the miners centuries ago: an incomparable experience.
